Anderson Engineering have had a long-standing relationship with Sika and have worked on a number of mixing solutions for Sika over the years. Sika is a specialty chemical supplier for the building and construction industry, with a product line featuring high-quality concrete admixtures, specialty mortars, sealants and adhesives, damping and reinforcing materials, structural strengthening systems, industrial flooring as well as roofing and waterproofing systems.
They approached Anderson Engineering with the need to increase the capacity of their current processing plant, which handles multiple end products.
The scope of the project was to expand their existing production facilities by seamlessly integrating the new vessel into the current infrastructure. This required the development of a full mild steel structure accommodating a 6000L Stainless Steel mixing tank fitted to the mild steel structure.
Following commencement of the project the need to develop a gantry system for hoisting up bulk bags for the introduction of “raw materials” (bulk stored powders) into the vessel was identified. This system had to be able to lift 1-ton bulk powder storage bags for introduction into the vessel through an Anderson Engineering designed “feeding hopper/funnel”. Our design team really enjoyed this challenge, which involved PR Eng calculations, design verifications and design calculations on the structure to make sure it could withstand the load before actually going into manufacturing. A 2-ton certified gantry system was then developed and included into the scope of the project. The scope of the project also included the integration of all ancillary processes and raw materials (pumps, valves, pipework) as well as CIP into the design and process.
The project was installed and commissioned successfully in November 2019.
