This pharmaceutical manufacturing company based in Kwa-Zulu Natal, Durban, has been operating for 34 years, supplying both the private and public sector with medicinal products in the form of syrups, tablets, powders, capsules syrups and creams. They also offer contract manufacturing services and had an opportunity to manufacture a product for one of long-standing clients, Aspen.
Aspen introduced us to the client to assist them in developing the same processing plant that Aspen use for their liquid pharmaceuticals. Being aware of our standard of work and our ability to produce the required documentation for their level of product, Aspen recommended us.
In order to meet the regulations and high standards required by the pharmaceutical industry, the brief was to develop the same conditions of the processing plant and mixing process currently being used at Aspen, to ensure the same consistent output of end product.
We developed an innovative custom made manual mobile CIP system for the client. The versatility of this system means it can be manually moved to the area or equipment cleaning is required and the system is then manually connected via the flexible hoses and it is then also manually controlled. The simplicity of this CIP system ensures flexibility in the plant where it can be used with just water, or dosed with a detergent or chemical through a funnel, using the concentration required, and the waste expelled.
The process involved with this product required suspension (i.e. the product is required to be mixed all the time). As a result, the filling machine hoppers that pack the product off were required to be upgraded with the fitting of general-purpose mixers. Anderson included the fitment of general-purpose mixers into the scope of the project.
The full scope of the project included:
- Custom build hygenic processing vessel with an anchor stirrer and a side mixer
- Supply of mobile CIP system
- Upgrade of filling machine hoppers with general-purpose mixers
- Supply of all documentation (IQ, OQ, SOP etc)
The project was awarded to Anderson Engineering in March 2019 and installation and commission took place in October 2019. The client and our team have full confidence in the success of the project because it is something we replicated from the past and is a tried and tested processing system that has worked successfully for many years.
