At Anderson Engineering, we believe in the power of business to make a positive impact on society. Recently, we had the privilege of supporting Project Gateway, an inspiring initiative born from a dark period in Pietermaritzburg’s history. Our contribution, consisting of manufacturing and donating 65 school desks and installing 8 security gates for classrooms, reflects our commitment to social responsibility.
Project Gateway: A Beacon of Hope
Project Gateway’s journey began in the aftermath of the Seven Day War in March 1990, a conflict that left devastation in its wake. Piet Dreyer, Brian Andrews, and Ernest Zikali, driven by a shared vision to serve the poorest of the poor, rallied local churches to launch a feeding scheme and clothing distribution center. This grassroots effort marked the birth of Project Gateway, officially founded in 1992 when a formal constitution was signed. Their headquarters, The Old Prison, has been a hub for transformative projects since with a thriving school added to the mix.
Anderson Engineering’s Contribution: Making a Difference
In alignment with our commitment to social responsibility, Anderson Engineering manufactured and donated 65 school desks to the Project Gateway school. These desks provide children not just with a place to learn but also symbolize hope for a brighter future.
Additionally, we manufactured and installed four security gates for 8 classrooms, ensuring a safe learning environment. Our aim was to bolster the physical security of students and support the well-being of the community.
Representatives from Anderson Engineering were invited to the school for the hand over ceremony. Whilst the school leadership and learners expressed their thanks, we expressed our pride in making a tangible difference through these donations. Our actions reflect the spirit of corporate responsibility, where businesses actively engage in initiatives that extend beyond profit margins, focusing on the betterment of society.
A Lasting Impact
Our involvement with Project Gateway exemplifies how businesses can collaborate with grassroots organizations to create lasting change. We believe that corporate entities can play a pivotal role in uplifting communities and fostering hope and resilience. In conclusion, Anderson Engineering’s partnership with Project Gateway underscores the enduring power of compassion, unity, and corporate social responsibility. Together, we are building a brighter future for generations to come, one desk and one secure classroom at a time!
